120 students were conferred with National Certificates and National Foundation Certificates on the 7th of July at the 35th St Peters

Kubatana Technology Centre’s Graduation ceremony in Highfield. The certificates were conferred by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Honourable Professor Jonathan Moyo at a ceremony attended by about 500 people.

Fr Anesu Manyere SJ, the Director of St Peters Kubatana congratulated the students graduating in Machineshop engineering, Wood Machining and Manufacturing Technology, Automotive Engineering and Brick and Block laying.

The Acting Principal, Mrs Flora Jaure commended the efforts of the staff and the students whose commitment goes a long way in improving the centre’s service. She expressed her joy in the progress of various projects undertaken at the centre which include waste management among many others. This has seen the community engaging in a manual waste sorting system, separating the recyclable, non-recyclable and biodegradable material.

Honourable Moyo encouraged the training centre to improve its teaching and training innovations and ensure that its ultimate products are not only affordable but also competitive in order to be relevant in the market.

St Peters Kubatana is in the process of transforming its status from a mere technology centre to an Industrial Training College bringing the total number to 5 countrywide.

Professor Moyo said that this major transformation is not based on declaration but on capacity and must be evident in the ability of the college to train and produce technically competent artisans.

He urged the college to start preparing training technicians in various fields and fulfilling the tertiary institution’s role of research, planning, developing and training manpower.

St Peters Kubatana Industrial Training College was established in 1971 by a Jesuit priest Fr Anthony Davis SJ as a school of technology offering the young men and women technical skills to help them in life.
