Gokwe’s new bishop Rt Rev Nyandoro ordained

Monsignor Rudolf Nyandoro (49) received episcopal ordination and was installed as new Bishop of Gokwe Diocese on Saturday 29 April 2017 at St Paul’s Primary School in Gokwe.

He was appointed as new bishop by Pope Francis in January 2017 to succeed Bishop Angel Floro SMI, who resigned after shepherding Gokwe diocese for 17 years.

Gokwe Diocese was established in October 1991 and now has an estimated Catholic population of over 76 000.
Zimbabwe Catholic Bishop’s Conference (ZCBC) President and Bishop of Masvingo, Rt Rev Michael Bhasera was the principal consecrator. He celebrated mass with several bishops, the clergy and thousands of the laity.

In his congratulatory message, the Apostolic Nuncio to Zimbabwe Archbishop Marek Zalewski implored God to bless Bishop Nyandoro and urged the clergy and faithful to support him in his episcopal ministry.

"For you my brothers and sisters, Bishop Nyandoro is your bishop and a Christian with you for all of us we are children of God, we are all equal and we walk together as pilgrims towards the kingdom of God".

Archbishop of Harare, His Grace Robert Ndlovu spoke on behalf of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference and welcomed Bishop Nyandoro to the college of Bishops.

"I want to welcome you Sekuru Nyandoro to the college of bishops and congratulations. I hope we are going to work well for you are still young and zealous,” he said.

 Archbishop Ndlovu extended his gratitude for all the works that Bishop Floro did across all spheres of life in church and in education.

"Keep united amongst yourself as it is the key of success in your pastoral ministries, be close to them listen and empower them for you give yourself to people, they surrender and give themselves.”

Rt Rev Nyandoro was born in 1968 in Gweru, ordained priest in 1998 and served as the Chancellor of Masvingo Diocese at the time of his appointment as new bishop of Gokwe.
